Biathlon World Cup 3 Pokljuka – Men’s Pursuit: Svendsen Wins the Hunting Game!

Round 3 of men’s Pursuit just finished a few minutes ago in Pokljuka, Slovenia.

The race was disputed under rain and very harsh skiing conditions and was from start a battle of 2.

Emil Egle Svendsen – Norway – won his first race of the season after starting 2nd (just 1 shot missed in the last standing position) and reinforced his lead (red bib) in the Pursuit event overall classification. With this result he climbed to 2nd in the Word Cup overall standings at the cost of Russian Evgeny Ustyugov.

Ondrej Moravec (Czech Republic) took second place (his best result ever) making a great comeback after starting in 8th.

Word Cup overall leader Martin Fourcade took last podium (two shots missed in the last standing position) and easily kept his yellow bib for tomorrow’s Mass start race (the 1st of the 2012/2013 season).

The women’s pursuit follows this afternoon at 14:00 CET.

Gabriela Soukolova of Czeck Republic will lead the ‘hunting pack’ after her first world cup win in yesterday’s sprint with fast skier (but weaker sharp shooter) Miriam Gossner from Germany starting just 2 seconds behind.

Current world cup overall leader – Tora Berger – will only start 27th having to catch up 1:19 minutes lost in yesterday’s sprint race. We believe she will finish inside Top 10.

Darya Domracheva from Belarus (2nd in the overall World Cup standings) will be absent since she did not start the sprint race due to illness (flu).
