The main 2013 Dakar Rally car contenders finished Stage 4 a few moments ago.
Qatari Prince Nasser Al-Attiyah (Buggy) won the stage with a very tight margin both over to Frenchmen: Guerlain Chicherit (SMG, 36 seconds behind) and Dakar Leader Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini, 1:17 minutes more than Al-Attiyah).
Nasser Al-Attiyah is a former Dakar winner as well as an Olympic medalist is shooting.
Nonetheless he is not the only one to prove top skills in both Dakar and other sports. Also former Dakar Winner – Luc Alphand – did the same in skiing.
Main Favorite to win the Dakar 2013 and the driver with more Dakar wins (Bikes and cars) Stephan Peterhansel kept the overall lead but now with only 5:16 minutes over Nasser Al-Attiyah.
South-African Giniel De Villiers (Toyota) got 4th place in this stage (4:17 behind) and climbed to 3rd overall but yet with a long time distance of 33:22 minutes from Peterhansel.
Portuguese Driver Carlos Sousa (Great Wall) did much better than yesterday. He finished in 10th and moved from 24th to 11th in the general classification (GC). He is now within 5 minutes from 10th place GC.
Former WRC Driver Carlos Sainz (Buggy) and favorite to win the Dakar had as yesterday another disastrous run and lost around an hour to stage winner. He his now a bit more that 1 1/2 hours behind Peterhansel and his Dakar victory hopes suffered today may be the final blow.
Stage 5 for Cars will start tomorrow at 15:25 CET
