Super Athletes – UK Sports Personality of the Year: Olympics and Monty Python? Our Post 100!!!

The 2012 shortlist for the UK sports personality of the year was announced yesterday and without great surprise is dominated by Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

Cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Sir Chris Hoy, tennis star Andy Murray, and athletes Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah are candidates in a 12-strong list.

Rower Katherine Grainger, golfer Rory McIlroy, boxer Nicola Adams and sailor Ben Ainslie are other hopefuls.

Paralympians Sarah Storey, Ellie Simmonds and David Weir also make the list for the award.

Accordingly to Eurosport,  the odds favor Bradley Wiggins 2/5, Mo Farah 5/1, and Andy Murray 8/1. Bradley Wiggins won the 99th Tour de France and is one of the favourites for the next year Tour 100th edition.

The winner of the UK sports personality of 2012 will be decided next December 16 th trough public voting.

On that same day, the International Sports Personality of the Year will be known, by contrast, through a decision of a panel of judges. Eurosport-Yahoo! has been campaigning for Italian racing driver-turned-paralympic champion Alex Zanardi to win that title, and we at sportsworldintel.com fully support their campaign. You may want to remember our post on Zanardi’s deeds.
