The winner of the last 3 Ballon d’Or Awards - Lionel Messi – reached an amazing record of 91 goals in 2012 (only official matches) beating German Gerd Muller that scored 85 in 1972.
Twelve of Messi’s goals were scored in 9 appearances with his National Team Argentina. The other 79 were scored wearing Barcelona’s Jersey.
From the 2008-2009 season till now (last match in December 22nd in which he scored once against Valladolid) he scored 246 goals in 245 official appearances with Barcelona - more than 1 goal average per match – of which 164 in the Spanish League (La Liga) and 48 in the Champions League. He already has 26 goals in La Liga current season in only 17 matches (averaging 1.5 goals per match).
He already had set 4 world records for most goals scored in a season (2011–12):
- 73 goals in a season.
- 50 goals in La Liga (Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid was however Champion).
- 14 Goals in The Champions League.
- 5 Goals in a single Champions League match.
And he is about to set another World Record: Becoming for the 4th time (and in a row) the World’s Best Player.
That will surely happen next January 7th at least judging by our Poll latest results: 75 out of 125 voters (60%) have elected him till now!
