Biathlon World Cup 3 Pokljuka – Women’s Mass Start: Berger Regains her Form!

Under heavy fog that made shooting rather hard, Biathlon’ s World Cup 3 came to an end a few minutes ago in Pokljuka, Slovenia with the women’s Mass Start race.

Biathlon’s Mass Start Event – What is it and what matters most?

Word Cup overall leader – Tora Berger – won the race although missing 2 shots (great performance if you saw the fog there was!). No one went clear the shooting range, of course.

World Cup overall standings now show Berger with a reinforced leadership (83 points over 2nd place).

Tora Berger already was the queen of the 2012 World Championships and seems she is promising to do it again in 2013.

Miriam Gossner of Germany (4 shots missed) which already had won the pursuit race was 2nd in the mass start 35 seconds behind Berger.

Gabriela Soukolova that recorded her first career win in Poklujka’s sprint event took a solid 3rd place (over 1 minute from Berger) and maintained her 2nd position in the World Cup overall standings.

Darya Domracheva (Belarus) after missing the sprint and pursuit races due to a flu was able to start the mass start but finished just bb th missing 9 shots (The worst shooting performance of all 30 biathletes). She lost her 3rd place in the World Cup overall standings to Gossner. Henkel also passed her too and is now 4th overall. Nonetheless, this may prove not to be a problem to Domracheva if the rest of the season goes without health problems since the worst 3 results are discarded from the final overall World Cup classification.

Biathlon will now break for season holidays and will come back in 2013 with a double round in German soil.
