The name of the Brazilian Grand Prix Circuit is an homage to “José Carlos Pace” a former Brazilian F1 driver than won only 1 Grand Prix in his career, precisely in Brazil (1975) just two years before his tragic death at the age of 33 after a small private airplane he was in crashed into a tree. The previous circuit’s name until 1985 was Interlagos.

The track lap record belongs to Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya with 1.11.473 (2004 – BMW Williams). He also won the race that year, one of his 7 F1 career victories (he repeated the Brazil win in 2005, this time driving for Mclaren Mercedes).

Montoya is currently racing in NASCAR with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing team. He did not manage to reach the 2012 ‘Chase’ for the NASCAR Sprint Cup (finished 22nd overall) that was recently won by Brad Keselowsky. One of these days we will talk a bit about NASCAR races and explain what the ‘Chase’ is.

Qualifying session for the Brazilian 2012 F1 Grand Prix will be held tomorrow at 16:00 GMT.
