UK 2012 Sports Personality – Bradley Wiggins, Well Deserved! Usain Bolt Wins International Award

British professional road and track racing cyclist – Bradley Wiggins (UCI ProTeam Team Sky) – took the award for 2012 UK’s Sports Personality an event organized by BBC. Curiously, Wiggins was born in Belgium (Ghent) and his father is Australian.

Wiggins was the winner of this year’s Tour de France (the 1st British cyclist to do so) and also took the Gold Medal in London Olympic Games cycling Time-Trial (the 1st ever to conquer both events in the same year).  With this Gold medal Wiggins became the British Olympian with more medals (seven) one more than the ones won by rowing legend Steve Redgrave. His 6 other medals (3 of gold) were won in Olympics Track Cycling between 2000 and 2008.

Wiggins was chosen to ring the bell that commenced the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics. He did not had a hard time reaching the high bell since he is 1.90 metres tall!

Athletics heptathlon Gold Medalist Jessica Enis was second.
