Michelle Larcher de Brito is a 20-year-old tennis player from Portugal, a former top 100 (76ª WTA – 2009) that has been struggling to build on her high quality beginning in professional tennis six years ago (when she was only fourteen). Today, this US resident, that entered in Wimbledon main draw after playing the qualifying’s was responsible for a major upset in the women singles championship by defeating in two straight sets the current number 3 in the WTA Ranking Maria Sharapova. This is clearly the highest moment in the tennis modern history for a portuguese tennis player.
Michelle Larcher de Brito, currently number 131th in the singles WTA ranking will climb above the 100th place whatever the subsequent performance she might achieve in Wimbledon’s 2013 edition.
The 26th of June 2013 will be remembered for several upsets at Wimbledon namely due to the eliminations of Federer, Tsonga, Azarenka and Maria Sharapova.
