Barclays ATP World Tour Finals 2013 – Who Would Be Qualified Today?

Michelle Larcher de Brito

Who is Michelle Larcher de Brito? (WTA)

Michelle Larcher de Brito is a 20-year-old tennis player from Portugal, a former top 100 (76ª WTA – 2009) that has been struggling to build on her high quality beginning in professional tennis six years ago (when she was only fourteen). Today, this US resident, that entered in Wimbledon main draw after playing the qualifying’s was responsible for a major upset in the women singles championship by defeating in two straight sets the current number 3 in the WTA Ranking Maria Sharapova. This is clearly the highest moment in the tennis modern history for a portuguese tennis player.

Michelle Larcher de Brito, currently number 131th in the singles WTA ranking will climb above the 100th place whatever the subsequent performance she might achieve in Wimbledon’s 2013 edition.

The 26th of June 2013 will be remembered for several upsets at Wimbledon namely due to the eliminations of Federer, Tsonga, Azarenka and Maria Sharapova.Michelle Larcher de Brito

Tennis Australian Open – Women’s Poll Results and Our Predictions

Now that the Australian Open is heading for the semifinals, we publish our Poll results and present our forecasts both for the 2nd semifinal line-up as well as for the Winner of the First 2013 Grand Slam.

Poll results till January 22nd 11: 00 AM CET:

Player N. Votes %
S. Williams 26 53,1%
Sharapova 10 20,4%
Azarenka 8 16,3%
Na Li 3 6,1%
Other 2 4,1%
Total 49 100,0%

We believe the 2nd semifinal will pair Serena Williams and current WTA Ranking N.º 1 Victoria Azarenka.  The 1st semifinal is already defined: Li Na will face Sharapova.

The final will be probably between Serena Williams and Sharapova. We bet on Serena, as our readers seem to do, to take her 6th Australian Open and 16th career Grand Slam.

If this final prediction proves to be correct it will be game n.º 13 between those 2. In the 12 games played till now Serena leads 10-2.

Who will win the Australian Open – Women’s Single (Tennis)

Comparing to the 2012 edition the most significant feature of the Australian Open 2013 Women’s singles is this: Serena is back! But will she win? The Australian Open is set to begin in January the 14th, we are just a few day away. Care to pick the winner?

The tennis season starts today but not for Nadal who is out of the Australian Open 2013

The 2013 tennis season is beginning but not for Rafael Nadal. After the knee problems that kept Nadal out of the courts in the last semester of 2012, now, just while he was scheduled to start competing, a stomach virus defeated all hope for him to play the first Grand Slam of the year. Currently at number four in the ATP Rankings with 6,690 points, Nadal him most probably lose several positions by January 28th 2013, the day when the 1200 points Nadal gathered as the runner up in last year’s Australian Open final will be dropped from the ranking.
David Ferrer, currently number five in the ranking and only defending 360 points in the Australian Open, for instance, will definitively end January above Nadal’s score.
In the meantime Novak Djokovic won the exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi (against Nicolas Almagro) and Li Na defeated Viktoria Azarenka in the exhibition tournament of Hua Hin (Thailand).
The first official tournaments are about to begin. This is the official ATP calendar for December 2012:
